What a setup 

It was a setup! If the man was to say not to stone her, then he would have publicly denounced the religious requirement which was sacred to the masses.

However, if he was to agree to stone her, it would contravene all that he said about their God being merciful and forgiving. Either way, he would come across as a fraudster.

What a dilemma! I would have been verbally constipated.

The Wisdom of the Man
